Our story
SaHera: founded by women, for women
SaHera began with a conversation between sisters about something that shapes many stages of a woman’s life: hormones. Their influence on the body, emotions and well-being is often experienced amid silence and misunderstanding.
Today, SaHera focuses on the everyday well-being of women navigating perimenopause. Its story began with a broader interest in women’s hormonal experiences, before that focus became more defined.
An idea born from a conversation between sisters
The story starts simply and personally: a conversation between Lamia and Inès about experiences that many women recognise but still find difficult to discuss. Both had an interest in traditional Chinese medicine as a complementary approach. During their conversation, an idea emerged: to create an ear acupressure device that women could use independently in their everyday lives.
That idea developed into a desire to build a company offering practical, thoughtful tools centred on women’s experiences.
SaHera was born.
An idea grows and a team comes together
A year later, Mariem joined them. With expertise in technology and data, she brought another perspective: how innovation could support women’s well-being.
Together, they shared a conviction: women deserve tools designed for them, with them.
What drives us is more than building a product. We are creating something we wish had existed—for ourselves, for our mothers and for women who deserve to feel heard.
The founding team: Inès Guellif, Mariem Abid and Lamia Guellif.
The overlooked space: perimenopause
There is a stage of life that is often overlooked and misunderstood, despite being deeply significant: perimenopause. For women in midlife, changes such as irregular cycles, tiredness, mood variations and hot flashes can appear without clear explanations or practical support.
This is the gap SaHera wants to help address
Hormonal life involves several major stages: puberty, menstruation, sometimes pregnancy, and eventually the menopause transition. For many years, menstrual cycles form part of that experience.
Over time, cycles can change and become less regular. Perimenopause is the transition leading towards menopause and can last several years. Women’s experiences vary, and changes in sleep, energy, mood or physical comfort can affect daily life.
These changes may be natural, but that does not always make them easy. Perimenopause still receives limited attention in public conversation and can remain a taboo subject.
Our mission: support women’s everyday well-being
SaHera’s mission is to help women better understand their experiences and navigate perimenopause with greater confidence and clarity.
We are developing tools intended to fit everyday life. Our approach distinguishes the mechanical ear acupressure device, designed for well-being, from the separate companion app under development. The device contains no AI and does not collect data.
Our ambition extends beyond a single product. Changes in comfort, sleep, concentration, mood and energy can shape the way someone experiences daily life. We want to contribute to a broader approach that takes those experiences seriously.
Listening to women’s needs is the starting point for that work.
Our vision: a better quality of life
We imagine a world where every woman has access to information and tools that help her care for herself, and where discomfort is not ignored, minimised or misunderstood.
Menstruation, perimenopause and menopause are part of many women’s lives. SaHera’s current focus is supporting understanding and everyday well-being during perimenopause.
Knowing your body better can help you ask questions, seek appropriate support and make informed choices.
The values at the heart of SaHera
Our values guide the choices we make and the tools we develop.
Listening to women
Listening comes first.
No two women experience hormonal transitions in exactly the same way. Their symptoms, priorities and needs can differ substantially. We place lived experience at the centre of our approach: hearing women’s stories, understanding their routines and paying attention to what they are navigating.
That is where useful design begins.
Innovation
Innovation is another central value.
Women’s hormonal health has not always received adequate attention in research or technology development. More organisations are now working on products and tools that reflect women’s needs.
SaHera is part of this effort, exploring practical ways to support women through perimenopause.
A thoughtful approach to well-being
The original idea was shaped by an interest in natural and non-drug approaches. We want to offer options that fit women’s preferences and daily lives, while keeping the distinction between well-being tools and medical care clear.
An approach being natural does not itself demonstrate safety or effectiveness. Information about a product should remain specific to what is known about that product.
Awareness and education
SaHera also works to make conversations about women’s hormonal health easier. Menstruation, perimenopause and menopause can still be surrounded by silence or embarrassment.
By sharing information, resources and educational content, we hope to help normalise these conversations and strengthen understanding.
Challenging taboos around hormonal health
Menstrual pain and other experiences associated with hormonal transitions have often been dismissed as something to get through. Yet many women describe a substantial effect on everyday life.
We want to help change that response. Speaking openly is a step towards better understanding and more appropriate support.
Hormonal health should not be a taboo subject.
A company looking ahead
SaHera’s vision is part of a wider effort to give women’s health the recognition it deserves.
An increasing number of initiatives are being developed around women’s needs. Often described as FemTech, this field includes technologies, products and services intended to improve women’s health and well-being.
SaHera contributes its own perspective: tools grounded in women’s experiences and designed with everyday use in mind.
Bringing established practices and modern design together
SaHera draws inspiration from acupressure and from the possibilities offered by contemporary technology. These are two distinct parts of the project: a mechanical ear acupressure device intended for well-being, and a separate companion app being developed to help women record and better understand their experiences.
The app’s proposed capabilities should be understood as development goals unless their availability has been confirmed. The project’s ambition is to make information and practical support easier to access, while preserving women’s autonomy.
Building a community
Beyond products, SaHera hopes to build a community around women’s well-being. Sharing information and experiences can help people understand one another and change the way these transitions are discussed.
Every story and conversation matters. Bringing those experiences into the open can help shift how society sees hormonal cycles and the natural transitions in women’s lives.
